Jermain Taylor vs Kelly Pavlik

I can't say that I thought this was a good fight, but I can admit that I was wrong about the outcome. I really thought that Taylor would win. In fact Taylor was on the road to a win. I had Taylor up 58-55. I think Taylor would have probably pulled out round 7 as well. However; Pavlik kept coming forward throwing punches and finally landed the big right hand to hurt Taylor. All that was left was the finish. Even if Pavlik hadn't landed the win, I was not really impressed with Taylor. I think his bad intentions have become uncertain intentions. He doesn't seem to have the confidence that he had when he took The Executioner Bernard Hopkins out.

Pavlik should move forward and take one anyone and everyone in the Middle category. I would like to see him take on Winky Wright and KO him. It's time for Winky to grab some canvas. That would make one of his fights exciting for a change.

I would like to see Taylor move up to Super Middle and take on some of the lesser guys and then go for Calzaghe. Taylor needs some work before trying out Calzaghe.

BTW, Taylor looked awful after the fight. His face was a complete mess. His cheek bones looked like he had little airbags installed. Those airbags were pumped to the max and then some. If his jaw wasn't broken, it missed a good chance.

Now what about Andre Berto and David Estrada? That was a great fight. Maybe a little one sided but who doesn't like to see someone get the living daylights beat out of them. The good part is that Estrada didn't know he was getting whipped.

I was really impressed with Berto's power, speed, strategy, and awesome body shots. Actually, the only way this fight could have been better for Berto would have been a massive body blow to put Estrada down. I had my fingers crossed but it wasn't in the cards. I guess if I can't have my body blow KO, I'll take some great uppercuts! Berto setup his KO with an awesome uppercut. This fight was a match between a boxer with power and a brawler who ran out of gas! Great fight, thanks Berto!

Paris Hilton vs. David Letterman

I prefer to write about boxing matches but a good down and dirty fight works occasionally. This had to be the funniest show that I have ever seen Letterman do. Normally, I just don't think he's that funny.

8:47 minutes of pure terror for Ms. Hilton is how I would sum it up. It starts out with the common greetings and Letterman taking a good stare at Hilton's legs. You can then begin to hear it in his voice, Letterman is setting her up: "How have you been - all right?" Of course he says this in his little creepy voice, not to mention that you can tell he's up to something. He gets right to it and asks: "How'd you like being in jail?" It never gets better from Ms. Hilton's viewpoint!

Letterman even asks her if she knew what she did to go to jail. She avoids answering. It's about at this point where you can tell that she is starting to feel the heat. This is where the dirty looks start as well.

"Have your friends treated you differently since you've been out of the slammer?" Oh, this is good stuff. Letterman just keeps coming and coming. At one point Hilton gets really upset and has this, I'm about to cry look. This is where she starts bouncing around in the seat.

I'll stop there and not ruin it for you (assuming that you haven't seen this masterpiece).

Check it out! This is my all time Letterman favorite.

Google's 9th Birthday and Web 2.0

Today is Google's 9th b-day. Wow, where has time gone. Seems like yesterday that I was sitting at work using my new Compaq Deskpro (more like dustpro), which was quite a change from my IBM 3090 mainframe terminal, checking out this new thing called the Internet. This was approximately 1993, and for you die-hards I know the Internet wasn't that new. However; to the majority of folks it was definitely new. Anyway, we had to be careful how much time we spent on the Internet because bandwidth was a premium. Since we had to use an emulation type of software to get to the Internet we were very discriminating in what we checked out - Big Brother had to be watching. At home, I would fire up the 9600 baud modem which just screammmmmmmed! Boy did I think life stood still when I purchased my new 14,400 baud. Then I went to heaven when I splurged and got a 28,800 baud modem. Back in those days Yahoo, Alta Vista, and Dogpile (a little later) ruled the search engines. There were no peer-to-peer programs to share all that good stuff, no blogs, and no wiki's. Anyone remember news groups and news group readers? The closest to a peer-to-peer network that I can think of were the bulletin boards. Occasionally I would forget the Internet and sign-on to one of these bulletin boards. At the time, I lived in the Dallas, Tx area and there were plenty boards to try out.

Life really has changed: No more ALC, COBOL, PACBASE, WAAPDSUTs, JCL, TSO, CICS, and on-call from H-E double toothpicks!

I like where we are and where we're heading. The Internet really has improved life or as least our ability to gather knowledge. I even like useless knowledge. It's all fun to collect. Has Google made a contribution to knowledge? I believe so. Happy Birthday Google!!!

The Contender

I have been watching this season and enjoying as usual. I have read lots of posts that say the talent is much better this year but I haven't seen it (I'm looking for it in the ring, not the gym). I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

So far, I have enjoyed the first year the best. It was full of drama and entertaining. The first season, the contenders wore their feelings on their sleeves and this made for a great show. I enjoyed the challenges they participated in and I enjoyed the rewards that they earned. Of course it helps when you pick the winner from the first show.

I believe the first season is one of the best reality shows I've had the pleasure of watching.

UPDATE: Just finished watching episode 3 and I'm still not impressed. A prediction: a good counter puncher will drop Johnsen easily! He leaves himself wide open too often. I was surprised to see that Johnsen didn't throw many looping punches, but it wont do him any good. If Hernandez (really out of shape) can hit him square with overhanders then he's got to know he's in trouble.

And for the big prediction - Buddy McGirt will put the gloves back on and fight Pepe for the Contender title. Unfortunately, in the last round Sugar Ray will jump in with a folding chair and whack both Buddy and Pepe on their heads keeping the title for himself.

Fantasy Football - Cont'd

It continues and it's not good. I'm down 1-2-0 and this week doesn't look good.

Iron Mike Tyson in Trouble, Surely Not

Yep, Iron Mike is in trouble with the "Law" again. He has admitted to driving while under the influence of drugs (arrested in December). Mike, what are you doing??? He's facing a possible 4+ years in prison. Dude, you need to find some stability in your life. Three bags of coke is the wrong way to stability.

Look for his sentencing November 19.

Burning Down the House!

Last year I planted a couple of Jalapeno pepper plants and had a small harvest. Not many peppers at all, and they were all very small. This year was very different, two plants with lots of big peppers. I had to find something to do with this bumper crop of peppers so I decided I would make Jalapeno jelly. My first batch was perfect - no problems at all. However; tonight I decided to make some more. This batch didn't go so well. I just wasn't paying attention and let it boil over onto our glass cook top stove. I was trying to figure out what to do when it boiled over again. This time a fire jumped right up like someone had just thrown it there. Luckily, my wife was close by and threw some water on the stove and put it out. It was so out of control in just a matter of seconds. SMOKE everywhere and kids screaming and crying! Long story short, its all under control and the jelly tastes good. The stove needs a little work unfortunately.

ABC DUI

Yesterday the director of the KY Alcoholic Beverage Control was arrested for DUI. Apparently his BAL was .181 (more than double the legal limit). According to habitsmart.com the effects of a BAL of .15 is "Impaired Balance and Movement. Clearly Drunk".

This is the way I see the whole thing going down:

Officer: Do you know why I pulled you over?
Suspect: No.
Officer: You were weaving in the road. Please step out of the car so we can do a sobriety test.
Suspect: Can I put the car in park first?
Officer: Put it in park and step out. Can you say your ABC's for me sir?
Suspect: A - B - C - D --- U --- I ........ That's not right is is?
Officer: No, but I think you're right on track. We're going for a little ride now.

George Clooney Goes Down

Poor George hit the ground today on his Harley Davidson. He was riding two up with Sarah Larson at the time. Sounds like he got side swiped by a car turning right. George was able to leave on the bike but Sarah goes to the hospital. George with a cracked rib and Sarah a broken foot.

O brother where art thou? I'm on the ground in pain. It hurts so bad. ---- Just joking, I really feel sorry for them. After all, George is a good 'ole KY boy. What about the person who hit him? We must feel sorry for him. How would you like to be known as the person who ran over a couple of movie stars? I wonder if he asked for autographs????? Actually, I bet he didn't have a clue who he had run over.

My wife dropped my HD a couple of times. Luckily she wasn't moving either time. However; the first time it scratched the pipes and cut the end of one of the hand grips. The bummer - I had just bought the bike (91 Sporster Hugger)! The second time, she dropped it and burnt herself real good. This wasn't half as bad as when a friend came over to check out my new computer and backed into it when he was leaving. It hit the ground again. I was just a little upset.

Keep the sticky side down and the shiny side up!

Iguana Smuggling Like You've Never Seen!

I really like reptiles and have owned many. However; I would never smuggle a reptile (or any other thing for that matter).

Well apparently there are some who would smuggle reptiles. How 'bout Fiji Island Banded Iguanas? Yep, and the best part is how he did it. He put them in his leg. His hollow prosthetic leg! Actually he had built a special hidden compartment in the apparatus. The business must be profitable because apparently he recently sold 3 for $32,000! When the police searched his house they found 4 more of the little critters. The money would be nice, but of course the maximum 5 years in jail wouldn't be fun. Can you imagine being a 1 legged lizard smuggler in prison? "Whatta you in here for"? "Smuggling lizards in my leg". "Yea right".
